Wire Gauge Explained
We recommend using 18 Gauge wire in the installation of these dog underground fences.

Use 20 Gauge if:

  • You have loose, sandy soil
  • Your yard has little vegetation
  • Your wire will be buried in low traffic areas

Use 18 Gauge if:

  • You have rocky soil
  • Your yard has a lot of vegetation in it
  • Your wire will be buried in high traffic areas
  • You will be installing your wire above ground
Remember, even a small break in your wire will cause your system to fail. You cannot purchase systems with 18 gauge wire at your local pet store, or through pet supply catalogs. You can only get 18 gauge wire through a select few internet retailers.
